It was a quick turnaround around week after the show at Empire Dragway with the Northeast Outlaw ProMod Association. The great folks at Empire let me leave my RV there for the week. I was able to jet set home Sunday afternoon and work and fly back last Thursday morning. I stopped back by Empire and grabbed some clothes and my streaming equipment.
I didn’t get too much of a hassle getting into Canada. The officer couldn’t understand why I had a Satellite Internet with me. I said to him don’t you watch TV? That’s why I need this 🤷🏻♂️ I guess that answer was good enough we are now in 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I decided I need to stop at the Niagara Falls and play tourist for a few minutes. That’s still a beautiful place. It’s hard to believe that water never stopped flowing.
After a very scenic ride through the country I’m at Toronto Motorsports Park. I didn’t realize Toronto was 90 minutes away. Cayuga was a very quaint town. I went out for generator gas and visited the LCBO store in town. After the first day I was addicted to Tim Horton’s COFFEE. That’s good stuff!!
A few cars tested Thursday afternoon and early evening. We set our equipment up and did a few Live Streams. Every thing went well. The Starlink worked pretty good there. After a good nights rest on Thursday night I’m ready to go.
Friday brought more testing from 12-7 I believe. The show starts at 8 pm. Jay Santos knocked the scoreboards down in testing with a 3.63/215 run. I believe this is the new Canadian ProMod record. Testing ends and it’s time for the show. The gassers are out first then a few of the exhibition classes We are about 75% through the show and we get a brief sprinkle The ProMod teams return to the pits to wait it out The Northern Warrior jet car driven by Neale Armstrong made a 275mph blast down the track as rain was approaching again. The rain halted all activities for the remainder of Friday evening after Neale’s run.
Saturday was a total washout of drag racing action. Once the rain ended and it started to clear a Golf Cart race was put on. With well over 50 carts entered we were racing. After the buy back round the rain paid us another visit. They were trying to figure out how to split the money back up for all of the winners. After a little persuasion from NC ProModer the racers agreed to donate all of the money to Tony Positano Family
Sunday brought the running of the Saturday Schedule as advertised. It was a pretty nice day Sunday just a little cool with a big cross wind. The wind put several classes back to 1/8 mile racing . 3 rounds of ProMod and Fast 16 qualifying were run in the afternoon At 6 pm we started the Advertised show of exhibition cars and first round of Fast 16 and ProMod. The fuel Cars and Jet cars and trucks put on an exciting show. The Nostalgia Funny Cars got everyone excited with long Smokey burnouts and dry hopes. After a few oil downs and explosions all racing is halted just after 10 pm for the Fireworks show
We start Canada Day (Monday) with fast 16 going into the semi finals and ProMod going into E2. The track is also having a large TNT day as well on Monday. The Fast 16 group gets done first with Shawna Woudstra in her nitrous dragster against Paul Coull in his Too Coull Racing Corvette. Door car versus Dragster. Just how you want it too play out. Paul grabs a little too much on the striating line and turns the red light on. Shawna’s dragster was on a string all day running dead on and one above all day. Congratulations on the win!!!
The ProMods worked their way to a final round pair of Jay Santos vers Sam Andreacchi. Santos had a significant performance advantage leading into the finals. Sam took a big swing on the tree leaving with a .003 light. But the team added power and it didn’t make the trip. Santos being conservative on the tree left second but his Santos Motorsports Team crossed the finish line first. What a great way to end the weekend. Santos had arranged for us to cover the event. And now we’re going to the winners circle!!!!
In closing I had a wonderful time in Canada. I had no idea I had such a following in 🇨🇦🇨🇦. I’m trying to see I I can make the race next month at Grand Bend. I’ll start working on that this weekend. Thanks again to everyone for making us feel so welcome in Canada. I’m still on cloud 9 about the event
