I headed up to Maryland International Raceway very early Thursday morning. Upon arriving I noticed I had a water leak. Further inspection revealed a pin hole in a water line between my tanks. Made a quick trip to Tractor Supply in the next town and found some pipe repair tape that did the trick. Still dry today.
After gaining entry and getting parked in my special spot I proceeded to get set up. While unloading my golf cart I noticed a battery was hanging down below the frame rails? I guess all of the bouncing around made the battery break through the plastic tray. Some of Derek Wards guys came over and we pulled out all of the batteries and found some plywood pieces in the scrap pile and made a patch. It held up all weekend. My buddy #GarysCarts has a tray headed to me this week hopefully. I’ll probably beef it up some before installing.
With cooler than expected temperatures Thursday only a few teams tested. The Deckers Salvage team made impressive runs with both cars Thursday. More teams arrived Thursday evening and most everyone tested Friday. We had 16 cars on the property. Between personal emergencies and mechanical failures only 12 would make it to eliminations.
WE had a good qualifying session Friday night with several career best runs. Mike Decker Jr was on the pole with a 3.57. SATURDAY the rain and cooler temperatures kept the promods off the track. The Top Sportsmen field did make a pass Saturday night along with the MIR bracket categories. A decision was made to do a Q2 Sunday morning at 11am. A few cars worked their way up the ladder but no one could match Decker Jrs 3.57.
Eliminations began around 1 pm. But unfortunately there was a one on track incident that took, over a hour to clean up We ended up with an all Decker Finals. Mike Jr and Mike Decker iii. Decker iii ran a 3.59 to claim his first promod win.
We also covered the J&R Promotions quick 16 race where the 16th qualifier won all of the money. Bonus coverage of the Warrior Outlaw class and Real Street also made appearances on the LiveStream.
Congratulations to all of the winners at MIR last weekend. It was a really good show that got done earlier than I was expecting.
When getting ready to leave I locked my keys in my truck with it running along with both of my cellphones. All of my friends were gone. Thankfully Dino from the Deckers team does some towing work so he had the equipment to get my door unlocked. Thank goodness. That would have been a long ride home with a rear window knocked out. Due to the unexpected delay I dint make it all the way home. I decided to stop at vmp and rest. To my surprise a few of the npk teams were working on their cars. Had a good visit with Kyle Kelly and Ryan Martin before I called it a night. Work up around 7 am and made it home without further issues. Lol
WE HAVE A BIG week coming up.
