Jason Harris driver of the Wine Racing entry has been to all four finals in 2020. Jason and team have collected three of the coveted Big Dog trophys in 2020. Mr. Wine has the largest smile you have ever seen as he loads up the coveted prize to head home after each win.
The Wine racing team returned to big dog in 2017 after Mr. Wine asked Jason Harris to drive his race car. The team has continually improved their operation with 2020 seeing the team bring their third different chassis to the event.
The 2020 operation consists of a Jerry Bickle built Pro Mod style chasis that was purchased from the Boone and Harris Racing stable at the end of 2019. The car has many of the finest pieces one can own, including a M&M Transmission and Torque converter package capable of taking all of the power from the Albert Racing Engine that propels the team to run consistently in the mid 3.90’s regardless of track temperature. The Hoosier Racing slick on the rear is able to transfer all of this power to the sometimes tricky racing surface. The team has a great shock package from PRS that handles the dips and bumps of Piedmont Dragway with ease. The team also runs the decals of Big 4 Motorsports and Napa / Walker Auto-parts on the rear of the car. They even have an NC ProModer decal onboard.
The team is housed and the car is maintained at the multi use facility of Jason Harris Racing, Boone Harris Racing and J&J Fabrications located in Pittsboro NC.
Jason was a long time competitor at the Big Dog when it was more of a Pro Mod style class. Bob Harris, Jason’s father started the ” Original Big Dog Series” many years ago when he was the owner of Piedmont Dragway and grew it to be one of the premier events on the East Coast.
Under new track ownership from the Senecal family and track manager Kevin Shipmon, Big Dog is tracking back to its popularity with the fans and teams after a major rule changes in late 2015/2016. The rules were made to eliminate the Pro Mod style cars with cubic inch engine and nitrous restrictions as well as no Hemi powered Supercharged entries and NO Lock up style torque converters just to name a few of the rules.
Big Tire racer Chris Rini and Small tire legend Barry Mitchell as well as local engine builder Andy Beal are awaiting final assembly of there new cars. Scott Lang has confirmed he will return to the series in 2021 in the crowd favorite AML Motorsports Supercharged Mustang. Tim Lawrence, drive of the beautiful Phantom Chevy Camaro hope to return at the next event with his new Albert Racing Engine.
In closing Jason and the Wine Racing team have been the #1 Qualifier at every event. The team did there homework over the off season and have forced every competitor to continue to improve there program to make the 8 car shootout program. Due to Covid 19 many of the teams hoping to make their debut in 2020 are very behind schedule, due to many parts manufactures shutting down for many weeks at a time. I do believe we will see several new entries before the 2020 season ends. This will allow the class to be stronger than ever going into 2021. Big Dog / Outlaw 800 class is the fastest growing Big Tire class on the East Coast.
Thanks again to Piedmont Dragway and all of the Big Dog teams for letting us #MakeDragRacingGreater with you. I do feel like the NC ProModer team has played a small role in the class returning to it’s glory days.
The only thing missing is you!!!! Take a Thursday and Friday off and Make a Big Dog event a travel destination for some of the closest heads up racing in the world, with the chip drawing before first round it is anyone’s race to win!!
