We loaded up and headed out Saturday morning for the 200 plus mile drive to Shelby NC. for the Pro Mod show on Sunday. We were able to witness almost a full day of racing Saturday at Shadyside Dragway running many different classes. We were also able to watch Tony Wilson and Chuck Hicks make a couple of shakedown runs Saturday evening. Tony lead the way with a phenomenal 3.84 run off the trailer.
Sunday we awoke with high hopes of having a big Pro Mod show unfortunately the track didn’t get the support from many of the racers we were expecting to attend. We did have 6 cars show up and the track PAID the entire purse. If you didn’t come you missed a very generous payday for qualifying. Thanks to Tommy Mauney, Tony Wilson, Chuck Hick, Lennie Buff, David Lambert and Charlie Richards for coming out to support LOCAL Pro Mod racing. You guys put on a good show for the large group of fans in attendance,
Tommy Mauney ended up as our low qualifyer with a 3.84/198 run. Tony Wilson was our second qualifier with a 3.86/193. Did I tell you how HOT it was !!!! It was hot.. Chuck Hicks made his first 3 second pass at Shadyside Dragway and dedicated the run to long time track owner Ronnie Buff who we recently lost. That was very emotional to everyone.
Tommy Mauney had the bye in the first rd 1 but did run another 3.84 to the delight of the crowd. Our #2 qualifier Tony Wilson was not able to make the call for first round. Charlie Richards and Chuck Hick paired up and Chuck had a transmission failure while staging and pushed through the beams. Charlie Richards driving a beautiful white 63 split window with a 903 Ci Fulton Power plant with multiple stages of nitrous.. Lennie Buff and David Lambert also squared up with David left slightly early on the tree. Charlie had a competition bye in Rd 2. Tommy and Lennie squared off in the other-side of the bracket. Both drivers call Shadyside their home track. Tommy took the win.
Charlie and Tommy squared off in the finals. Charlie made his best run of the day as they continued to get the car dialed in, but it wasn’t up to the bracket car Tommy was driving running another mid 3.80’s pass. Congratulations to Tommy and Andy and the team on the win and the $5000 payday.
Thanks to all of the Buff’s for having us down this weekend. I always enjoy going down. We will be uploading more pictures in the next day or so.
We have another big week ahead as we head to Galot Motorsportspark for the #PDRA DragWars event. I’ll also be going back to Kinston Dragway Thursday night for the #252list race.
As you can tell Cole was on the camera this weekend. He makes us look good !!!
