I was exposed to drag racing in the early ’80s by my high school friend, Steve Lambert. We were fortunate enough to assist a very successful Super Pro racer from my hometown of Lynchburg VA. Racing at New London Dragstrip as well as Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro Va., winning fairly often with a couple of track championships along the way.
I eventually moved NC to with my young family. I attended a few races over the years, especially the “BIG DOG” series at Piedmont Dragway. Fast forward to 2015, the track closest to my home, GALOT Motorsports Park was starting a monthly Pro Mod event. The juices and obsession began to develop again.
Looking for something to spend time with my youngest son Cole we started going to events on a regular basis. We became exposed to the PDRA during this time frame. After attending a small Pro Mod event at Rockingham Dragway in October of 2016. I was hooked. There was a very low car count at this event. However, I was blessed enough to meet Jimmy Greene and Bubba Turner of Rentman RACING, the entire team from Randy Weathorford Racing, as well as the Lizzy Musi team. I walked up to the starting line with the Rentman Racing crew, and it was on. The sound of the alcohol burning super charged machine was a total adrenaline rush, not to mention the face full of rubber.
I came home that night and told my wife and kids I was going out on a limb and figure out a way to get to know all of these racers on a personal level. They looked at me with the deer in the headlight look when I explained what I was about to attempt.
In mid-November of 2016 I started the “Carolina Kid Pro Mod Chaser” site. I typed this about 4 or 5 times and figured this was not going to work. I’m not a good typist. I quickly shut that site down. After regrouping in December of 2016, my site of “NC ProModer was launched. No one really knew what to expect, including myself. I developed a business model and away we went. We have had a few bumps in the road, but I’m extremely happy how this has progressed. I can’t thank the PDRA, Carolina Extreme Pro Mod Series, the NHRA, Galot Motorsports Park and Piedmont Dragway for supporting us.
We are still a work in progress. I hated to Live Feed when I first started. I discovered I was pretty good at it and gained followers when doing it. I can’t thank my son, Cole enough, He came on board early on and learned to be a great young photographer with very limited equipment. He is working with me so I may improve my camera skills. I certainly would not have been able to spend over 60 nights on the road in 2017 without the support of my wonderful wife, Lori of over 32 years.
Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Thanks for reading and visiting my new website. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support. I don’t know how far this thing will go, but I feel blessed with the success we have had so far.
