I had high hopes starting the weekend out of some incredible side by side racing on #promodervision. Arrived at Piedmont Dragway to a 7 car field of Big Dog cars. After several rounds of qualifying we were down to 4 cars. Three teams experienced mechanical failures that kept them from making the first round call. 4.70 Outlaws were also on the card with 7-8 cars showing up for that class.
Barry Mitchell and his team kept getting faster and faster as the evening went on at Piedmont Dragway squaring off against Mike Graham his beautiful Carbon Fiber looking Chevelle In the finals. Both cars left hard but tire shake or loss of traction had Graham out of it by the 330 ft cone while Mitchell powered the #cudatime #wyomotorsports powered team down the track to a stellar 3.75 /200 plus mph pass to pick up the first Big Dog win of 2024
The rules committee is currently looking at the rule set for Big Dog to get more cars on the property. I was advised by a mentor of mine Jimmy Biggs years ago to stay out of rules controversy. I have lived by this rule for many years. Most places I go, I have no idea what the rules are. Hopefully we will have a few more cars for the June event. . It’s one heck of a race on Thursday night!!! Thanks again to the fans that showed up for the season opener. We were treated to some good racing by all classes. Piedmont Big Dog is one of my favorite events!!
After a good nights sleep at Piedmont Dragway I woke up Friday morning to head to the Legendary Darlington Dragway for my First #IHRA event. There were 8 Promod cars onsite for the 8 car shootout that was paying $10,000 to win. A very hot day on Friday had many teams struggling during the afternoon shakedown at 2:30. Pm. Several teams elected to skip the session as track temperatures exceed 130 degrees. Conditions improved during the three qualifying sessions Friday night and things were starting to come together for everyone. Nitrous racer Bryan Shrader ended the evening #1 with a 3.70 run.
Saturday we awoke to cloudy skies with the wether man saying there possibly could be showers later in the day. We got hit with a small pop up shower much earlier than expected Saturday. The track was almost dry when the big one arrived, and caused the cancellation of the event. This was the first event in NC for the newly renovated IHRA. Car court was slightly less than expected in all classes considering the good “Guaranteed “ payouts. I know the IHRA will take some time to get back to where it needs to be. Hopefully the owners are committed to making it work. Please look at the future IHRA events this year and see if you can make one of them.
The highlights of my weekend was watching Herb DaRula wheel his DM Thompson Enterprises INC , Shannon Jenkins tuned ProMod down the track. DeRula’s grudge/NT background will be good for spicing up ProMod Racing Steve Jackson Racing already wants some action??
We were blessed to have the legend #ScottyCannon join our coverage partner team for 2024 under his #killermater brand 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
