Good morning
Had a phenomenal trip to Rockingham Dragway with the NMCA / NMRA. The new owners of Rockingham Dragway are making significant investments trying to resurrect The Rock back to its hay day status. Many improvements are being made that were not visible from the live stream. The bathrooms and concession area have received face lifts. Lots of paving has taken place in the pit area. The owners are committed to the rescue of the rock and I’m excited because it is pretty close to home.
Thursday was scratched due to rain and extremely high winds. Friday we went straight in to qualifying all classes got at least one pass in before a strong pop out storm ended the day early. The heads up classes were close to getting on the track for their 2nd qualifying attempt before the day was halted. This changed the schedule up slightly for Saturday. All heads up classes were given two qualifying passes before the day ended. Several classes with large car counts ran a few rounds of eliminations.
Sunday was a day full of exciting eliminations. The heads up classes took to the track around 11 am after a medical emergency in the grandstand put us behind schedule. After the first round of heads up racing, the program got in a smooth run order. Getting the race done completely around 5:30 pm. This is one thing I like about NMCA is how they don’t usually run late into the evening.
A big shout out goes to the NMCA/NMRA, Rockingham Dragway and Total Venue Concept crews. They worked tirelessly though some tricky weather conditions to put out a stellar racing surface with many low 3.60 passes in the ProMod field. Congratulation’s to all of the event winners and especially the Smokie Garage team a sponsor of mine. Scott Wildguist collected his first ProMod win of 2024 and Smokie himself (Mike Clark) took runner up in the Factory Super Car Class. Smokie also made everyone’s highlight real with a monster wheelie during qualifying.
Thanks again to everyone from the NMCA /NMRA for the warm welcome and VIP treatment. It was very much appreciated.
We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend coming up at Virginia Motorsports Park with PDRA. Look for a full day of Livestreamimg on Thursday.
Thanks for reading this!!!
