I started the race week out at Kinston Dragway on Thursday night for the #252list Race Your Way On event. Thanks to Danny Waters Jr. and Bobby Smith for inviting me down. We had 8-10 cars competing for a shot at calling out the No. 10 racer. There was a tremendous crowd that showed up to enjoy many fast cars and bikes test-n-tuning, as well as the Race Your way On The List event. We even had a GREAT Bonus, Ernie Evertt showed up with his Pro Mod and dazzled the crowd with a long, smokey burnout. Then he proceeded to make a big time hit. His car didn’t hook on the first attempt and he backed up and tried it again, to everyone’s enjoyment. On his second attempt it almost hooked, but when the nitrous kits fully came in, it lost the tire. It was still really cool to see!! Once again we had a giant crowd and everyone enjoyed themselves. After watching some of the upper half of the #252list cars test, I have scheduled the September 6th event at Kinston Dragway List race on my schedule. Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.
On Friday afternoon, Mrs. NC and myself loaded up the camper and headed to one of my favorite tracks, #PiedmontDragway for the #ExtremeOutLawProMod event on Saturday. Friday night was a test and tune night with a streetcar shootout. At the end we live fed a $1000 grudge race that didn’t end as expected, with one of the competitors crossing the track and making contact with the wall. $1000 lost and a slightly damaged race car. We closed out the night socializing with the #WilsonMotorsports team.
Saturday came and we were ready for the #EOPM event. We had 11 cars onsite attempting to make the 8 car field. Tony Wilson came off the trailer and ran an impressive 3.841/195 run to grab the top spot. Tommy Mauney showed what his car was capable of with a 3.847/198 run to take the 2nd spot in Q3. Thanks to all of the competitors that showed up to compete, David Campbell, Brian Shrader, Jr. Ward, Cam Clark, Scott Lang Justin Wall, Bubba Turner and Michael Dawkins, who was running a few laps to get his competition license.
Tommy Mauney and Brian Shrader marched through each side of the ladder. Tony Wilson had a nitrous line fitting failure while doing a burnout in Rd. 2, causing the entire bottle to empty into the driver’s compartment. After some quick thinking by Tony and his crew nothing was seriously damaged and no one was hurt. Tommy Mauney laid down a shot heard around the world with a 3.767 at over 200 mph in Rd 2. Everyone thought he was a lock for the win, considering Brian Shrader did not make a good run in Rd 2.
During the finals Brian Shrader showed why his team is one of the hardest working Pro Mod teams around. They ran their best run of the weekend and stunned the crowd with a 3.81 run which took the win light over Tommy’s 4.02, after Tommy’s car had some unwanted movement near the top end causing him to lift slightly. Congratulations to Brian Shrader and his entire team on a big win. I must admit, I was looking for Tommy to run a mid 3.70’s run at well over 200 mph in the finals. That’s why it’s called racing and not winning. Also, I must thank the #ClassicGearJammers for putting on a fantastic show.
I’m taking next weekend off as of right now, then we will be preparing for the #PDRA #DragWars at #GalotMotorsportsPark and the #252list race all in the same week. I do need to welcome #CarmackEngineering as our latest partner and our first partner that is involved in the Drag Racing Industry. Hopefully other companies will follow his lead. Well, thanks for reading. If you have time please watch all of the Live Feeds from last week. Thanks for all of the support, Jay.
